Season Pass for 2011/2012 Meeting Schedule

The DPOR requires the following for continuing education requirements for renewal or reinstatement for your professional license:

"A. Individuals whose licenses expire or who apply to reinstate after March 31, 2010, shall be required to comply with the continuing education provisions of this chapter.
B. Individuals are required to complete at least 16 continuing education credit hours of approved continuing education activities for any license renewal or reinstatement.
C. Continuing education activities shall be deemed to be approved provided the following criteria are met:

Your local ASHRAE chapter is offering a season pass that will provide 8 hours per year towards this requirement. This is an "inch by inch anythings' a cinch" method to meet the state requirements. This will also allow you to submit one expense report for easy management of cost and  all meetings will be on the calendar for pre-planning.

Stay posted as our calendar and line up of seminars comes together by late summer. Please see our poll to the right of this blog and provide us with your feedback.

One thing that is very important to understand is that this is a self regulated process subject to random audit by the DPOR board. As quoted from the requirements:

"Each individual license holder applying for reinstatement shall provide, as part of his reinstatement application, evidence of compliance with the continuing education requirements of this chapter. The completion date of continuing education activities submitted in support of a reinstatement application shall not be more than two years old as of the date a complete reinstatement application is received by the board."
Do not be that person that rushes into the bosses office saying that DPOR is asking for continuning education credits and I have to fly to some distant place and spend the weekend or two weekends catching up - as your boss will just be thinking : "Your lack of planning does not constitute emergency on my part" - and calculate the cost on that emergency!?

ASHRAE HRC held a live Ground Source Heat Pump webcast at Old Dominion University’s Gornto Hall on April 21st.  The webcast featured leading heat pump experts explaining how site, climate, building, HVAC system, and ground characteristics affect ground heat exchanger design, how ground source system design enhances efficiency, and how to avoid design and operations pitfalls.  If you missed the webcast, please visit  ASHRAE Webcasts where you can register and view the webcast from your personal computer until May 5th.

Jump Start for Hampton Roads ASHRAE Student Chapter at Old Dominion University

The Hampton Roads Chapter ASHRAE had a pizza luncheon Thursday, April 14th for students interested in ASHRAE.  Nathan Luetke is a professor for ODU’s Engineering Technology department and has volunteered to become HRC ASHRAE’s student chapter advisor.  Nathan has been working with Gary Hayden (HRC ASHRAE past president and active student activities chairman) in starting the student chapter and engaging students interested in ASHRAE.  Rob Ainsley, Gary Hayden, and Scott Almond (HRC ASHRAE representatives) teamed up with Nathan to talk with several students and present the benefits of becoming a student member and starting a student chapter.  The students were fully engaged in the conversation and eager to chapter operations.  We would like to thank Professor Nathan Luetke for stepping into this very important role and all of his great work.

ASHRAE HRC Tours Sentara Princess Anne Hospital

The Hampton Roads Chapter of ASHRAE conducted a technical tour of the region’s newest healthcare facility Monday evening, April 11th.  The tour included brief, non-commercial presentations by the construction manager and vendor representatives of the mechanical and electrical equipment provided on the project.  The tour also included a visit to the central utility plant to view the facility’s chillers, boilers, pumping packages, cooling towers, electrical distribution, and emergency power equipment.  We also toured the patient tower penthouses which house the facility’s air handlers, as well as, the hospital’s operating suites and security monitoring room.  The evening concluded at a local restaurant where members gathered to network and socialize.  We would like to give special thanks to Bob Gutierrez, the project manager for the general contractor, who was instrumental in setting up the tour.  We would also like to thank the vendor representatives and tour attendees for their participation.

ASHRAE HRC's ODU Basketball Student Activity Event Scores Big!!!!!

We held our 2nd Annual ODU Basketball Student Activities Event on Saturday, January 22nd.  We enjoyed pizza, snacks, and beverages while watching the Monarchs take on the VCU Rams.  This event helps create student involvement between students and our ASHRAE chapter.  We have sold out our tickets two years in a row and want to thank our members, faculty, and students in achieving this success.  We would like to give special thanks to Dr. Mileta Tomovic for his support and we will see you at next year's event!
