Welcome back from the summer hiatus and we are excited for a great 2010/2011 ASHRAE season in the Hampton Roads Chapter. The last several years have been very successful for the Chapter and I look forward to working with the board of governors, committee chairs, and chapter membership in growing the trend of success. I want to recognize last year's Chapter President, Gary Hayden, for his leadership and dedication to the Chapter and local community. Thank you! In addition, thank you to all our officers, committee chairs, volunteers, and event sponsors who supported and contributed to last year's success.
Our major focus this year is to increase chapter membership as well as increasing volunteer support amongst the board of governors and committee chairs. As a result of the hard work from past presidents and board members, we have awarded most board positions and committee chairs, BUT we always need more volunteer support. We are searching for a volunteer candidate who is interested in the Treasurer's position. This position will offer opportunities for personal and professional growth as well as a leadership role amongst your colleagues and peers in the industry. We welcome anyone who is interested in volunteering whether it is for a board position, a chair position, or an event "one and done" position. As ASHRAE members, we are the technical leaders in providing energy efficient buildings for the sustainable future. Many of our members not only use ASHRAE standards on a regular basis, but some serve on Technical Committees that write ASHRAE standards. Please do not hesitate to contact any current board/chair members and ask how you can get involved. You will not regret this opportunity!
Our first chapter meeting will be the 3rd Annual ASHRAE/IFMA "E4K" Pig and Oyster Roast Event for Habitat for Humanity to help improve their facilities' energy efficiency. The event is this Thursday, September 30th from 4pm to 8pm at Talbot Hall in Norfolk, VA where we will have amazing food, cold refreshments, live entertainment, and fun times. Please visit our website for more details.
Subsequent chapter meetings will provide a look into industry trends through technical presentations by knowledgeable speakers, possible project tour for a "hands-on" experience, satellite broadcast, scholarship golf tournament, research promotion "Night at the Park" fundraiser, and ASHRAE/IFMA Holiday party this December. Event dates and topics are under construction and will be available in the near future. Our technical sessions offer a great opportunity for you to earn Continuing Education credits for your career development.
Our success comes from you and we depend on your feedback. Please contact me or any board members should you have any questions, comments, or require additional information. Our communication to the membership will be through the chapter website, the chapter blog, and an occasional email blast. Please bookmark us in your favorites and see you at our chapter meetings and events.
Thank you,
Rob Ainsley
